Russell Cloon, Esq.
Founding Attorney
Russell (Russ) Cloon was born in Colorado, the third of four sons of a carpenter and a waitress. The family returned to Kansas, their original home, in 1968, and Russ has lived here ever since, excepting the 7 years he served in the US Army. Orphaned before the age of 16, he attended the University of Kansas with the help of the GI Bill and numerous blue-collar jobs, earning a degree in Business Administration. He also earned his law degree from K.U., while running a small business on the side.
Having lived a blue-collar childhood, and having survived facing life without the security of parental support before getting a driver’s license, he shares a special bond with his clients – working folks who are just trying to make it from paycheck to paycheck. He knows they’ve done their best to pay their bills, and knows their pride often clouds their financial judgment. Their efforts ignored by creditors, collection agencies and creditors’ lawyers, ultimately they have to make the tough decision to put their family’s needs first.
Russ has over two decades of legal experience primarily engaged in assisting consumers in financial distress. He has handled over 3,100 Kansas bankruptcy cases, which puts him near, if not at, the top of number of consumer bankruptcy cases filed by any currently-licensed member of the Kansas bar. He is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. He spends most of his time working for his clients, but tries to find time to ride his beloved Harley. He lives in the country near Baldwin with his wife and best friend, Denny (short for Denise), and their son, Russell.
Bradley Medlin, Esq.
Lead Trial Attorney
Bradley (Brad) Medlin brings fourteen years of legal experience to the firm. Brad has been involved in literally hundreds of bankruptcy cases during his career. In addition to handling Kansas bankruptcy cases, he has also represented both debtors and creditors in complex bankruptcy and civil litigation, including mortgage foreclosure defense as well as providing effective legal counsel to small business owners. Brad received his B.G.S. undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law. While in law school he received the Cali Award for Law and Economics and also taught business law in the School of Business as a graduate assistant. Brad is admitted to practice in Kansas and the Federal District Court for the District of Kansas. He founded and managed a successful general practice in Olathe prior to moving to Georgia to take a position with a large corporation in Savannah. He and Russ were friends and colleagues and remained in touch with each other. Ultimately, Russ persuaded him to return to Kansas and bring his multi-faceted abilities to increase the scope and range of practice of the firm. A devoted husband and father, he lives in Gardner with his lovely wife, Kristi. Their oldest son, Taylor, has just moved to Texas to take a position in the oil industry. While in Georgia, the Medlins lost their teenage son, Thomas, in a tragic car accident. A star wrestler at his high school, he has been honored with memorials and an annual wrestling tournament in his name.
Irene Sulaiman, Esq.
Associate Attorney
Irene handles much of the court docket appearances for the firm, as well as handling the bulk of legal research and drafting. She has over three years of legal experience. Irene received her undergraduate degree in business from the University of Arizona and her Juris Doctorate for the University of Kansas School of Law in 2007. She clerked for Cloon Legal Services while in law school. After graduation, she became a licensed member of the Kansas and New York Bar Associations. She practiced with a general practice firm in Lawrence. However, her prior experience with bankruptcy law, and her love for it, lured her to return to Cloon Legal Services to focus on it. She feels privileged to assist and work with those who find themselves in financial difficulties getting their “fresh start” and finds her work rewarding. A native of Indonesia, Irene came to the United States for school, an opportunity that she is deeply thankful for. She loves her adopted country, and to her, Kansas is home. She is rapidly acquiring expertise in immigration law in her desire to help people who want to stay in the United States legally. She is admitted in Kansas and New York State Courts, as well as the Federal District Court for the District of Kansas. She and her new husband, Johan, live in Lawrence.
